A buy instruction is something that you will only use if you want to buy an instrument outside of market trading hours.

For a full explanation, visit our detailed What is a buy instruction and how does it work? FAQ article.

If you attempt to buy an instrument outside of market trading hours, you will be presented with 'warning' text just below the 'Select your investment type' buttons instructing you that the instrument you are attempting to buy is currently only available through a Buy Instruction - see highlighted text at bottom of image below.

If you then select the Monthly button, you will be taken to a page where you can set up a Recurring Investment.

If however, you click on the 'Once Off' button, you will be taken to a page where you can confirm your intention for us to buy the instrument you've selected, when the markets open.

When you confirm the instruction to buy, you will get taken to a confirmation page - see image below

If you then want to check on the list of instruments that you have instructed us to buy for you, you can select the 'Pending instructions' option from the stack menu to the left of the Bidvest Bank Logo at the top of the screen.

This will take you to the 'Instructions Overview' page, where you will see a list of all the instruments that we will buy for you when the market opens - see example with Sibanye Gold in image below.

PLEASE NOTE:

When you create a Buy Instruction, we remove the funds from your available funds / free cash and reserve it so that we can make the purchase on your behalf when the markets open.

If you decide to cancel a Pending Buy Instruction or require the funds related to it, you will need to cancel the Buy Instruction, which you can do by following these instructions - How do I cancel a Buy Instruction?
